How to Unwind on a Hectic School Week

relax

During a long and busy week at school, it is always good to find time to relax. I like to start my day off waking up 30 minutes earlier than I usually would. Giving myself an extra 30 minutes in the morning makes me feel less rushed. In my apartment, I make myself a cup of coffee or tea, light a candle, and do a quick devotional.

During the day I try to remind myself about something I am looking forward to …the weekend! I put all of my focus on the class I’m in while I’m in that class because it is easy to get sidetracked by other thoughts of what you have to do during the week. Focusing on what you are doing at the moment helps you not get overwhelmed as easily. Don’t stress over things you can’t control!

Walking around the beautiful UofSC campus soothes me and helps me become less tense and more at peace with my mind, body, and soul. I tend to listen to music to keep my mind from wondering to stressful thoughts while I am walking around campus.

I know it seems like if you are busy then you have no time in your day to hang out with friends, but human interaction is essential. Having friends around will uplift your spirit! Every time I am busy, I message one of my friends to meet me in the library just to be with me while I study.

One of the first things I said to do when you are stressed is to get up 30 minutes earlier in the day to give yourself more time, but with getting up earlier you should also go to sleep earlier. Getting a good amount of sleep will improve your mental and physical health. I like to set a time every day when I will stop doing any sort of work so that I give myself time to rest. Making a checklist also helps with not allowing yourself to overload work. As soon as everything on your list is all checked off it gives you the assurance that you did as much as possible for the day.
